Villány, the wine region
Villány is a town in Baranya country, Hungary that is famous for its wine. It is near from Pécs, aproximately 30-35 km, easy to reach by car, bus and train.
Hungary’s most famous red wine growing region. In addition to the unique features of the terroir, the soul of the wines and the charm of this wine region is given by centuries-old wine tradition, the famous Villány cooperation, the faith and work of people living here.
Villány – in the forefront
It is home to most demestic protected plans and animals. The first domestic stronghold of wine tourism is still functioning, Villányi Borút (Villány Wine Tour). Four of the region's wine producers have received the 'Winemaker of the Year' and the 'Winery of the Year' award. The largest number of natural organically cultivated vineyards in the country. The main motto is 'Villány, naturally'.
In this link there are a lot of actual programmes of Villány. Almost every month there is organized Wine Tour. During this event the organizers take you to some stunningly beautiful places, taste some truly unique wines and meet some talented winemakers. The wineries are mixed by the traditional, the experimental, and the modern culture. The visitors can explore the production areas, wander in the vineyards, and tour the ageing cellars.
Often you can meet the winemakers themselves your guide tell you the story of Hungarian wine. Generally, the organised tours include a platter of local cheese or charcuterie with one of the tastings and a slow lunch where you’ll see how the regional food matches with the wine.
